It may be too late for most of you, but today is National Gorilla Suit day. For the few of you who actually wore or are planning to wear gorilla suits today, congratulations. For those of you who missed it or had enough sense to avoid the humiliating costume, we bring you today's site, an homage to the creator of said holiday, Mad magazine artist Don Martin. His cartoons are much funnier than a gorilla suit, unless perhaps you have a friend with a gorilla suit that you can laugh at. Enjoy the comics.

Link:
http://www.nachshon.org.il/~itzs/Don%20Martin/html/gallery1.htm

Rating: 3 - these are great. much better than a gorilla suit. though you know, I do own a gorilla mask, perhaps I should go put it on.

Once more, sorry

Then again, this may not be the last time. Today's link is gone. It should have been a game, and a very fun game no less. At least I assume so. Well, nothing for you today. Sorry again.

If yesterday was cool, today is cute. You can go to the site and look at painting of sock-puppets showing emotion. Okay, it just sounds awkward written out, so go look for yourself.

Link:

Rating: 2 - cute is cute, but its not all that entertaining.

Sorry Again, Different Reason

Anyone who's been following the blog might notice that I have missed the last few days. Things have been busy, but not so much that I couldn't spare a couple minutes a day to post. By the time you show up, they should be on, but I apologize again.

At some point, you just have to step back and say, "Wow!" Today's site features some amazing works of architecture, from a group of islands developed as a miniature world, to the underwater resort. These are just amazing, and could take quite a while to look through.

Link:
http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/03/dubai/index_01.htm

Rating: 3 - regardless of what you can actually "do" on the site, these things are just cool.

Today we will be rating tattoos. Some are amazing, some are not so great. But you're sure to find one that you like.

Link:

Move over Olivander's there's a new wand shop in town. Yes, for all you Harry Potter fans, you can buy your very own magic wand. Probably no phoenix feather or unicorn hair, but still real. So get one, and start casting spells.

Link:
http://www.themagicwandshop.co.uk/content.php

Rating: 1 - not great, but worth a look.

Anybody out there like Dr. Seuss? Now we give you new stories, or at least some written in his style. Some of these are good, some not, and one entirely inappropriate. But fun nonetheless.

Link:
http://www.seuss.org/seuss/seuss.parody.html

Rating: 3 - funny, but not great. now some real new Seuss books, that would be cool. check it out though.

Rating: 1 - might be okay but not much for me. look if you want.

January 23

Today we bring "Extreme Heli Boarding". This game consists of snowboarding down a snowy slope, under a time limit. Assumedly there is a Helicopter somewhere, I did not really understand that but I did not play very long. Not challenging as such but annoying, you have to wait through a set add before you can try again. If anyone finds a way around this let me know.

Link:
http://www.2flashgames.com/f/f-Extreme-Heli-Boarding-3750.htm

Rating: 3 - fun but very frustrating. maybe you will enjoy it more. try it at least once.

Prepare for the death of your childish preconceptions as the gods of chance waste away to a puddle of blue liquid. A group has dismantled the famous fortune telling tool, the Magic 8-Ball, and posted step by step pictures of their process. Enjoy the end of belief.

Link:
http://8ball.ofb.net/procedure.html

Rating: 3 - amazingly cool, but it kills a childhood innocence. that cannot be defended.

January 21

Yesterday was old games, today it's old cars. Old, broken down cars. Enjoy.

Link:
http://carsinbarns.com/

Rating: 1 - there are pictures, but I have no interest in old cars. if you do, give it a look, but I don't care for them.

January 20

Today we have a database of games from throughout history. There are links to play them online, and a couple ways to download them. Not a site for most, but those who enjoyt he old games maybe check it out.

Link:
http://www.movingimage.us/exhibitions/cs98/Default.htm

Rating: 2 - I like games but in general the site is not very exciting. give it a shot, but don't hope for much

If you ever needed proof of the strangeness of the internet, here is Purr-fect Yoga. This site is devoted to teaching ways to purify the body and mind using "yoga" and a cat. Yes, it is a real cat (most of the time). There are a few videos of the various techniques.

Link:
http://yogakitty.com/

Rating: 3 - cute beyond a shadow of a doubt, but strange beyond reason. still worth a look, if only as something to laugh at.

January 18

Today's site is Streetsy. There is a quite large database, in blog form, of art found in the city, painted on dumpsters, or collaged on walls. Some of them are very interesting. Enjoy.

Link:
http://www.streetsy.com/

Rating: 2 - I was not especially thrilled, but maybe you will enjoy it more. At least give it a look to see if there are a few that you like.

January 17

Today we bring the epic adventure of "one red paperclip." This blog tells the story of the man who traded up from one red paperclip to eventually earning a house. He succeeded, and now he is even considering trading the house away. Click the pictures at the top of the blog to see the various steps of the trade. I spent a long time reading through the whole story and exploring the rest.

Link:
http://oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com/

Rating: 5 - this is amazing and earns my highest rating because it simply is so unbelievable. but its true. just read it

January 16

Today we bring the game "The Bouncy Ball 2". You use your mouse to draw lines as borders to get a bouncing ball to the exit while avoiding walls. Might seem simple but its not.

Link:
http://www.addictinggames.com/thebouncyball2.html

Rating: 2 - fun for a bit, then frustratingly annoying. Perhaps the more physics inclined of you might enjoy it more.

I'm Sorry

Regrettably, there will be no site today. The intended site was sadly taken down because the main site moved. You would have listened to Mynah birds, but no more. Come back tomorrow to find a new site that will hopefully be up and running.

January 14

Today we bring you another video. This is amazing, up to a point. Suffice it to say, Rude Goldberg with fire. It is apparently only part of a longer video, so if anyone wants to look into that, go ahead. But the video does stand alone.

Link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U82eWptFxSs

Rating: 3 - very entertaining, but a bit repetitive, even for a Rude Goldberg machine. a few nice touches, and definitely worth a look.

Toady we say hELLO to a brand new language. Well, it may not be new to all of you, or even most of you, but I bet that you have never heard of Oöblgshezi. The site will tell you how to pronounce it if you don't know. Oöblgshezi is the language of calculator speak. Yes, apparently it does have a name. And you may know hELLO and a few others, but they have a list of 362 words, with how to type them. So go, and learn.

Link:
http://www.langmaker.com/calculatorwords.htm

Rating: 2 - interesting, and it might amuze someone to program a way to make equations into sentences, though I wouldn't have the patience. at least go check out the pronunciation of the name.

January 12

Continuing in the "wonder" tradition, today we bring you some of the world's smallest wonders. The site is Nikon's MicroscopyU Small World Competition, in which people send in detailed pictures of really small things using all sorts of various techniques. Yes, very technical language. Thesite has the winners and Honorable mentions from 2008 all the way back to 1977. These images all look really cool, and clearly have colors different from real life, but I could picture most of these as amazing desktop backgrounds. Amazing even if you don't like photography.

Link:
http://www.microscopyu.com/smallworld/gallery/index.html

Rating: 4 - not interactive but the sheer volume of amazing photos more than makes up for it. these pictures are just plain cool, and finding out what each picture really is proves quite interesting.

January 11

Today's site connects back to yesterday's, again relating to the Wonders of the World. But this time, we take on the old list. The site has 3d models of the various wonders, along with descriptions of their purpose and description. This is worth seeing, if for no other reason than to provide clarification for the changes in the list.

Link:
http://unmuseum.mus.pa.us/wonders.htm

Rating: 2 - interesting, though not the easiest site to navigate, should be viewed if you liked yesterday's

January 10

Today we bring you a website on a grand scale, with a massive goal in mind. New 7 Wonders has decided that the old 7 Wonders of the World were no longer sufficient so they decided to make a new list. Their list of the 7 Man-made wonders has been decided and the 7 natural wonders are under debate. Go see the list, and find out the progress on the Natural wonders.

Link:
http://www.new7wonders.com/

Also, Link to the List(man-made):
http://www.new7wonders.com/classic/en/n7w/results/

Rating: 3 - very interesting and you can spend some time wandering through the natural wonder candidates, I was somewhat disappointed in some things that did not make the man-made list but I can't change it now, definitely go see the list if nothing else

January 9

Today we bring you Max Dirt Bike. Ride through various levels on your dirt bike, keeping your balance and avoiding a crash. Not too complex, but not easy.

Link:
http://www.addictinggames.com/maxdirtbike.html

Rating: 3 - entertaining and time consuming, but very frustrating. perhaps you will do better than me.

January 8

Today's site contains classic TV ads, from food and drink to cigarettes. But the link goes specifically to the grooming videos, and their are more than a few. Products from shampoo to aftershave to hair dye to toothpaste. Some fairly famous ads, and more than a few obscure ones.

Link:
http://www.roadode.com/groom_1.shtml

Rating: 2 - interesting but not necessarily entertaining. provides an "educational" look back on the past. the vast quantity of vidoes alone should keep you busy for a while though.

January 7

Today we bring you WILL IT BLEND?, a site for Blendtec and their Total Blender. They chose a quite interesting advertising scheme, that is, they decided to film a number of short segments showing their blender blending various things. And not just food or coffee beans, no, they blend electronics and model cars, among other things. The videos are divided into "try this at home" and "don't try this at home" for your convenience, along with providing a few of the most watched videos. Personally, I really like blending glowsticks.

Link:
http://www.willitblend.com/

Rating: 4 - not interactive as such, but there are tons of videos and all of them are interesting, if not funny. an original concept at least.

January 6

Today's web site is awesome. This is an amazing video, and to tell you more would ruin it. Well, since most of you won't just watch anything, think "medieval tech support". Granted, many of you might have seen this before, but go watch it anyway.

Link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX0-nqRmtos

Rating: 5 - yes, this earns the ever-elusive five. you get replay value from showing the video to others, or just watching again to laugh that much more. plus, its in a foreign language, with both language subtitles. It's just awesome.

Today's link carries us to Face Your Pockets Project. This site features a library of pictures, but these are not classic funny pics or motivational posters. The Project encourages you to take whatever is in your pockets, put it on a scanner along with your face, and scan it in, before sending the image to their site. They do recommend closing your eyes for the project, though plenty of people have left their eyes open for the process.

Link:
http://faceyourpockets.com/index1.html

Rating: 3 - A whole lot of fun, and a nice connection to something not online. nothing interactive on the site, but the pictures more than make up for it.

PS - If I get around to doing this, I will put my own image up here as well.

Sunday, January 4, 2009

January 4

Today's site is not too extensive. The site provides computer-generated images of what some popular celebrities might look like in 2034. There is no place on the site to put in your own celebrities, just a few pics.

Link:
http://www.eatnineghost.com/how-hollywood-celebrities-looks-like-in-2034/

Rating: 0 - If you are really into celebrities, you might give it a look, but not entertaining to me.

January 3

Today we bring you the Holidays. All of them. Well, not quite, but three or four for every day. For example, today is the Festival of Sleep day and St. Genevieve's day. There are also quite a few names for every month. So if you need a reason to celebrate, you will find one, or five.

Link:
http://www.tulane.edu/~wc/months/

Rating: 1 - Very interesting, but won't keep you entertained very long

Friday, January 2, 2009

January 2

Today we bring you Bloons, a fairly simple game. Use darts to pop balloons. Pop certain balloons for power-ups. Use those to pop more balloons. Also, you are a monkey.
The game is a puzzle solver, not a tetris-like game and you aim for completion. There is also an unlimited darts mode for playing around in. I have spent hours on this game and still find some of the puzzles challenging.

Link:
http://www.ninjakiwi.com/Games/Bloons-Games/Bloons.html

Rating: 4 - tons of fun, major time waster, but can get frustrating

January 1

Today's web site is the Calendar Converter. You can take any date, be it the current day, or your birthday, or the day seventeen years from now when you have promised yourself to finally get around to doing something amazing, and then convert it to the Julian calendar, or the Mayan calendar, or Unix time units, or quite a few others. This is fun to play around with, though not necessarily for very long. This can be nice though, as that means you can actually get other things done.

Link:
http://www.fourmilab.ch/documents/calendar/
(PS-you need Javascript enabled to view)

Rating: 2 - Might be mildly entertaining, and possibly useful, but more informative than fun.

By the way, this introduces the rating system. It runs from 0 to 5, 5 being the best. To explain:
0 = Did not like it, not worth viewing.
1 = Not too great, maybe worth a check
2 = Worth a look, a bit entertaining
3 = Average, go ahead and check it out
4 = Good site, lot of fun, likely a major time waster
5 = This is amazing, do not miss!
